Concord Community Music School
The Concord Community Music School
was founded in 1984 to provide quality
music instruction in a community school setting. After dramatic growth,
the Music School settled into a permanent home at 23 Wall Street in 1988.
Today the Music School welcomes 1,100 students from 112 communities to
Concord each week, produces over 200 public events annually for 35,000
additional audience members, and serves many communities through
partnerships with such organizations as Manchester Housing &
Redevelopment Authority, Merrimack Valley Daycare, Community Bridges, and
public schools statewide.
A full member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, the
Music School shares a mission begun by the Settlement Schools a century
ago—providing quality instruction in the arts to all who seek it, and
providing financial aid to all who need it.
In recognition of its artistic and organizational strengths, the Music
School has received prestigious honors: inclusion in the Lila
Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund Community Arts Education Initiative,
participation in the National Endowment for the Arts' Advancement,
Stabilization, Arts Learning, Access and Creative Communities programs;
and management recognition through both the Walter J. Dunfey Award
for Excellence in Management and as a 2001 New Hampshire Business of the
Year.
Our 55 faculty members, known as The Musicians of Wall Street, perform
often on Wall Street as well as on concert stages in Boston, New York, and
abroad, bringing to their teaching the knowledge and insight of
professional musicians. They are equally committed to their careers as
teachers, and are selected for their expertise in working with a wide
range of students, from beginners of all ages to advanced students
planning musical careers.
In the first stage toward musical careers, our alumni have enrolled at
leading music schools such as the Juilliard and Manhattan Schools of
Music, Indiana and Northwestern Universities, Cincinnati Conservatory, and
many others. Our students and alumni fill the ranks of New Hampshire
choruses, town bands, school ensembles, and honors groups such as the
Greater Boston Youth Symphony and the All State, All New England, and All
Eastern Festivals.
The same faculty who are qualified to guide these award-winning students
toward musical futures are equally experienced in and enthusiastic about
their work with beginners. From the adult beginning pianist who seeks a
stimulating new avocation, to the young violinist who will find lifelong
satisfaction from this musical beginning, Music School students are
provided with skills they can share with others throughout their lives.
The faculty of the Music School perform as The Musicians of Wall Street
and are listed on the NH State Council on the Arts Touring Roster. Please
call for a calendar of events or for information on the availability of
The Musicians of Wall Street for outreach concerts, school workshops, or
community residencies.
