Manager's Weekly Memo

DATE: December 24, 2009

MUNICIPAL OFFICES CLOSED: In observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day, City Offices will be closed on Friday, December 25th, and Friday, January 1st.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE FOR TRASH AND RECYCLING: There will be no trash or recycling collection on Friday, December 25th or Friday, January 1st. For this week and next week, Friday’s trash and recycling collection will occur on Saturday. The Transfer Station will be closed on December 25th and January 1st as well.

CONCORD PUBLIC LIBRARY HOLIDAY HOURS AND ACTIVITIES: The Library will close at 5:30 PM on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and reopen at 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 26th and Saturday, January 2nd.

The Children's Room at the Concord Public Library has scheduled a variety of activities during next week’s school vacation. The following activities will be offered: Monday, December 28th – Puzzle Day; Tuesday, December 29th – Scavenger Hunt; Wednesday, December 30th – Card Games; and Thursday, December 31st – Mask Making. Activities will begin at 2:30 PM each day. For more information, call 230-3690.

CHRISTMAS TREE DROP-OFF: Christmas trees may be dropped off at the following locations: the Transfer Station at 77 Old Turnpike Road, Beaver Meadow Golf Course or at the White Farm on Clinton Street. This will run from Saturday, December 26th through January 30th.  The Grounds Division of the General Services Department will chip them each week.

2010 CENSUS: The Planning Division and the GIS Section of the Engineering Division have recently completed participation in the Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA), a review of census map geography, and completion of the Census New Construction Program.  The New Construction Program resulted in 79 new dwelling units being added to the Census address list.  City staff, as part of the LUCA program, reviewed just under 2,400 addresses rejected by the Census Bureau and appealed 58% of the addresses.  Based on discussions with Census staff, we expect the appealed addresses will be included in the 2010 Census.  Work by the Planning and Engineering Divisions potentially avoided a 7% undercount for the City of Concord.  This is the first US Census where the City had the opportunity and capability to participate at this level.

FIRE PREVENTION ACTIVITIES: During the week of December 13th, Fire Prevention staff installed six car seats, performed 26 field inspections and completed four fire protection consults.

BEAVER MEADOW GOLF COURSE: The Beaver Meadow Pro Shop will close for the season on December 24th at 3:00 PM. The restaurant will be open on weekends from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM for cross country skiers and the general public.

DURAMED FUTURES TOUR: The Duramed FUTURES Tour Golf Tournament will return again next summer to Beaver Meadow Golf Course. Northeast Delta Dental announced it would support the Tour, which will be held July 19-25, 2010. The Tournament will benefit the Rotary Club of Concord and also gives select local players a chance to join the sport's rising stars. Beaver Meadow Golf Course staff are honored and pleased to be the host for the sixth year of a very successful Tournament.
